Will the dog crate fit in my car?
Measure your boot, trunk or cargo area, enter three numbers, and see which crates fit, which are tight and which won't go in, with the exact numbers behind each answer.

How this works
Every crate dimension comes from the maker or a retailer listing (linked on each crate). Where a figure isn't published we leave it out. Nothing is estimated. Sizes published in inches are converted exactly.
Width, height and depth: the crate fits when your measurement is at least the crate's outside size plus your clearance margin. "Tight" means it goes in, but with less room than your margin. Where the maker publishes a minimum boot size, we use theirs.
Height means the lowest point of the opening, because that's where crates catch (Thule's measuring advice). If your seats or tailgate slope into the space, add a second depth measured higher up: the tool then works out the usable depth at each crate's top edge, assuming a straight slope between your two measurements.
Dog fit: Thule sizes use Thule's own maximum shoulder height. Other crates use the 4pets measuring rule: crate length at least dog length + 7 cm (2¾ in), crate height at least shoulder height + 7 cm. Where the maker publishes inside dimensions (Gunner, Ruff Land) we use those; otherwise the outside size, so the real space is a little smaller. The US Center for Pet Safety and Subaru suggest a crate about 6 in longer than your dog's body as a general rule.
Lip height: standard Thule Allax crates take a lip up to 4 cm. Other makers don't publish a limit.
This is a measuring aid, not a safety rating. Always check the maker's own fit guide before you buy.
